Lovely Plover Organic Bedding

Lovely Plover Organic Bedding
I just love bedding, especially when the pillowcases aren’t the same pattern as the top or bottom sheets and the duvet is a completely different, yet coordinating, fabric altogether. I just love bedding, especially when the pillowcases aren’t the same pattern as the top or bottom sheets and the duvet is a completely different, yet coordinating, fabric altogether. Like mismatched china patterns, my favorite look in the bedroom is definitely not traditional and matchy-matchy - it’s eclectic all the way and fun-loving! For some, selecting a variety of  patterns and colors scares them because they don’t think they can “put it off” so they tend to shy away from creating a fun look for fear of falling flat. If that’s you never fear because there are lots of companies out there like Plover Organic, who I first wrote about when they launched last year, who make this whole process a breeze with patterns that all work together so well. It’s pretty close to impossible to create a clashing ensemble.

Plover has grown so much since launch by expanding their collection to include a more ethnic-inspired collection with an array of colors and patterns to fall in love with in addition to their 100% high quality organic cotton. They even have bedding for the nursery and table linens. Enjoy!

I’d love to wish everyone a very happy weekend! I am heading out now for the weekend as I’ll be traveling a bit but I’ll meet you back on Monday or Tuesday (at the latest) for another week of good things to share and discuss. I also plan to write a little more on the topic of creativity next Thursday in case you’ve been wondering whether or not I’ll bring back the series… more on that later. Here are some lovely links to keep you busy until I’m back March 31.

:: Subscribe to Real Living magazine if you have some extra cash, it’s an Australia decorating magazine to die for!

:: Make some new friends or post a topic you’d like some advice on over in the Kindred forums.

:: If you love Orla Kiely designs this site will take your breath away. Great sales too! Don’t say I didn’t warn you…

:: Delicious books from Finland.

:: Fashion to die for at Gorman, including some organic finds.

:: Put this in your shopping cart and eat it: baked goods and marshmallows from Whimsy and Spice, the photo above gives you a teaser of what you could be enjoying this weekend. I ordered my goodies that should be arriving today. (nom, nom, nom.)

:: Anne stocked her Etsy store, Enna, due to an overwhelming number of requests generated from her home tour.

And finally something I’m pretty exciting about…

:: Look for me in the April 17, 2009 issue of Family Circle magazine (it looks like this) where they asked a bunch of designers and decorators for simple decor tips, the article is called 50 Under $50 and appears on pages 22-29. I am honored to be included alongside Celerie Kemble, Thom Filicia, Nate Berkus, Kim Myles, Cat Wei and John Gidding to name a few.

See you later, happy trails! - Holly

If color and personality are what you love to see in a home, then you’ll really enjoy Nina van de Goor who lives in the Netherlands because both the way she lives and the art she creates leaps with joy. I had the pleasure of meeting Nina in person last year in Amsterdam and really enjoyed chatting with her. It’s always such a treat to connect with those I meet online a bit more personally - like in the flesh! In addition to her creative and unique ceramics, Nina recently started working on some screen prints and would like to offer decor8 readers a 15% discount on the new screen prints found in her shop on Etsy. Upon purchasing please put “decor8 discount” in the comments to seller box and Nina will send you a revised invoice in reply. Here are some inspirational photos showing Nina’s home and workspace along with lots of her handmade goodies for you to enjoy!

For more inspiration from Nina, view her Flickr photos here. Thank you for sending me all of these wonderful photos Nina and for the very special discount which, by the way, is valid for one week until April 2, 2009.

The delightful Delphine just made a few new announcements, first their letterpress is now available to order online and next, they’ve just launched a lovely blog called Delphine Ephemera. What’s so special about online ordering? THIS:

You can make it your own with dozens of ink colors, paper stocks and envelope choices and, my favorite part, you can view your customized pieces online before you order. Nice! To see how it works I gave it a whirl with the Ava design and love the insta-results as you can see above. Fantastic work, Delphine!

Prepare for total book cover cuteness! The second I unwrapped these babies yesterday, a recent handmade purchase from Etsy, I knew I’d have to take a couple of snapshots to share with you. These were made with love by Christina’s and I swear, they are even better in person. One is for me (the owl, of course) and the others are for a special friend.

I love the idea of using this notebook cover as a book cover (it’s the perfect size for paperback novels) for the times when I’m traveling. When I’m in transit I’m not always that keen on sharing with the world what I’m reading. I don’t read books with questionable content, it’s not about that, but it has to do with how much of a conversation magnet I am — no matter where I go strangers are somehow guided my way like mice to cheese to either tell me their life story or ask me a slew of questions sparked by whatever I am doing at that moment (reading, typing on my laptop, looking for gum in my bag, etc.).  While I’m outgoing and love people, I’ll admit to getting a little worn out sometimes. Do you attract strangers? For me, books are the easiest way to call attention to myself. When I was reading the Twilight series people approached me asking for my opinion or worse, asking what I thought about this or that part and surprise! I hadn’t even read that bit yet so those were total spoiler moments for me. My new book cover will be put to good use for my upcoming travels — maybe I can read in peace although now I’m wondering if curiosity will cause some to ask, “Excuse me um… whatcha readin’?”.

Hmmm.

Well if the book cover doesn’t do the trick then at least it still looks cute. :)

Have you ever heard of Fey Handmade? They just launched a few weeks ago and I can already see this site taking flight because there is a very special lady behind it who is keen on promoting the work of talented emerging artists and designers while providing the rest of us with unique, quality products that are shipped in earth-friendly, recycled packaging. Founder, Christine Lindstrom, has her BA in fine art and was once a visual merchandiser which is obvious from the moment you visit her site — the design is so pretty and welcoming.

Fey Handmade is brand spankin’ new so of course Christine is currently looking for fresh new artists and designers so if you are interested in contacting her please do so via her website. I can’t wait to watch Fey grow up, it’s exciting to see promising new businesses being born!

Around this time each month you can usually find me curled up with the latest issue of Domino magazine and a cup of strong black tea because this is when my crisp copy would have arrived. Yesterday when Martha Stewart Living and Coastal Living showed up, I couldn’t help but long for a little dose of editors’ cravings, scouting, and to see where that girl about town, Rita Konig, had visited since the last issue. I’m left looking for an alternate fix but having a hard time — I’m sure most fans of the mag can relate.

There’s no saving Domino as it’s an era over and done, so that’s why I feel lucky to have all 36 issues filed away in crisp white magazine holders to reference, along with the Domino book. Which leads me to ask you, did you keep all of your copies of the mag? Do you have a favorite Domino magazine cover?

Becky said that some past issues are going for hundreds of dollars on eBay. Can you believe it? I had to go to eBay to see it for myself and sure enough, I see lots of issues heading in that direction though most are still fairly affordable. Too funny though.

My 9 favorite Domino mag covers out of 36.

Wouldn’t you have loved to be on the cover of an issue? I think all of us had that dream at one time or another… here is a link to all 36 covers, feel free to join in on the fun by commenting below with your favorite (month, year) and you can feel free to explain why you liked it so much.

I love this time of year because all of the Spring/Summer collections surface and never cease to thrill me. The lovely Toast Spring catalog just went live on their site today, do you subscribe to the print version? I do — I’m so addicted — when one arrives in the mail I cling to it for weeks toting around its pretty pages in my bag. Right before I recycle it I  gently remove a few of my favorite pages to tack onto my inspiration board in my home office. It’s easy to see why I love Toast so much…

I really like this photo (above, right). Notice the shadow and the little detail there… a heart. This is a sweet touch. The lighting and vibe completely relaxes me. I can almost smell the salty air and feel the sunlight on my back, too.

Of course these images are but a teaser, to view more you’ll need to click here.

These photos whisk me off to a magical oceanside resort far, faraway. Free from the internet, my cell phone, and my home that is currently a pretty uncomfortable place to be since the kitchen and partial living room space was flooded last night due to a faulty washer machine that pumped water into the space for nearly 45 minutes straight before we even noticed it. Sigh. These images put me in a happy place today. :) I needed this badly!

Isn’t this pottery stunning? Yes, yes, yes! Made in Arizona, it truly reflects the beauty of the American southwest. I’m especially loving the heart-shaped nesting bowls and the lotus plate. Red Hot Pottery is artist Christine Tenenholtz who, “keeps herself busy inventing new ways to play with clay, beads, the camera, the computer, learning to drum, bellydance, and speak Spanish”. What a lady! {blog}

This tin jewelry and art by Little Black Rabbit in Seattle is BEAUTIFUL. I can absolutely see this at a trendy retailer like Anthropologie selling for 3x the price. I also love her makeup bags and rings, gosh all of it — it’s very country/bohemian!

Jenny owns a little shop, Bubbletime, in Virginia where she creates soft things using fabric like plush toys and pin cushions. So cute, especially the softie globe and the beaded pin cushions shown above.

Au Fil De in France has such serene and magical photography. Béatrice has a way with the camera… there is so much femininity and grace in these… Sigh. {blog} {flickr}

And for my bonus find this week… If you love the ruffles you’ve been seeing on the runway, why not bring them home to create a cozy, girly nest with pillows by Hettle in Connecticut. Gorgeous and oh-so-tactile — just add cuddling!
